Shopify Variant Schema & Google Shopping Graph: How to get all SKU variants cited in AI shopping carousels
If you manage Shopify stores with multiple color, size, and material variants, you probably noticed that Google AI Overviews and ChatGPT Search frequently cite out-of-stock variants or incorrect pricing.
Why? Because standard Shopify themes render product variants through dynamic JavaScript state changes that headless AI bots never trigger.
The Fix: Multi-Variant JSON-LD Architecture: Every SKU variant must have an explicit `ProductGroup` and individual `Product` node with its own `@id`, `sku`, `gtin13`, `price`, and `availability`:
{
"@context": "https://schema.org",
"@type": "ProductGroup",
"@id": "https://client.com/products/jacket#group",
"name": "Men's Waterproof Mountain Jacket",
"hasVariant": [
{
"@type": "Product",
"@id": "https://client.com/products/jacket?variant=101#variant",
"name": "Men's Waterproof Mountain Jacket - Obsidian Black / L",
"sku": "JKT-BLK-L",
"offers": {
"@type": "Offer",
"price": "249.00",
"priceCurrency": "USD",
"availability": "https://schema.org/InStock"
}
}
]
}
